Fresh Pottery Friday: Moon Mug Giveaway

The newest Moon Mugs are getting more complex. Intricate textures that resemble crater impacts are meticulously carved, poked and pressed into each porcelain mug. You can actually watch a demo of me creating Moon Mugs in this Facebook video. The surface colors require tediously brushing on black, blue or rusty iron, before wiping colors away using an “Inlay Technique” inspired by these Korean Potters. Our pots and tools are different, but the resulting surfaces are the same: gorgeous textures that are truly one-of-a-kind. To get more of these into the hands of more people, I’m giving away one of my best Moon Mugs:

This pot was fired three times to achieve a deep orange hue. The interior colors dripped together in the repeated firings, creating layers of complexity. To win this Moon Mug totally free ($160 retail: $145 + $15 packing and shipping) simply respond to the survey below, letting us know which of my @cherricopottery Instagram photos you like best before this Sunday at 11:59pm.

  1. I love all of your work, but I really love the cups that have the multiple colors (rim color different than the rest). I own 2 galaxy mugs, but I think the cups might be next on my buy list.

  2. I like #2 because it captures the spirit of your work. I think having a few pieces of finished work in there also would have made it perfect!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the moon mugs and will eventually have one in my possession however the shipping to Canada along with our crappy exchange rates right now puts them a tad but outta reach. Soon though! Very soon!
    Keep up the AWESOMAZING job!

  3. I love the picture where you’re at the Millstream Arts Festival making pottery. Seeing the finished product is always lovely, but seeing the artist at work ‘behind the scenes’, putting their heart and soul into their works, is always better.

  4. I enjoyed the second picture because it shows the peacefulness and engagement in the community that is trademark of Cherrico Pottery. It’s always nice to see the potter himself at work!

    1. Wow, congrats Kevin! You’re the winner! That extra comment really paid off. You should have an email waiting in your inbox for the free Lunar Mug. Thanks for participating and congrats! Thanks everyone for participating and stay tuned for another giveaway this Friday.

  5. I love the 3rd picture, because it showcases the galaxy mugs, which I bet are a bestseller (I own one!). They are very colorful and eye-catching. I would love to own a moon mug one day too 😉

  6. I love the second photo because it shows you in the raw…in the moment, expressing your creativity, looking totally calm, relaxed, and obviously doing what you love and looking cool at the same time! 😀 While it is nice to see the beautiful finished products in pictures, it is even better to see pictures of the magic happening!

  7. Photo #2 is where it’s at. It just shows you grooving on what you love to do. The mugs may not have their awesome glazes that make them each so distinguished, but youre sure showing your colors. Shows us a glips of the spirit in each of your pieces.
I mean, wouldnt you be happier knowing that the man that made the mug you drink from every morning was stoked to have made it!?!

  8. I like photograph 1with the nuka cobalt glaze. It’s a simple outcome, but the colors are beautiful.

I bought a cosmic mug a couple of months ago, and the pictures never really do justice to the outcome of the colors in natural light. Really looking forward to purchasing a nuka cobalt spiral mug~!

  9. I love the third photo because you can see just how gorgeous the colors are. The swirl and shine of the colors really stands out! <3

  10. All three pictures are great but I chose #3 because I love watching your live feeds of throwing the spiral mugs, and the glaze is just beautiful! #2 is a very close second!!

  11. I love seeing all of your final products, but I feel like being able to see you actually creating them helps people understand the time and love that goes into each piece. That’s why I feel #2 is the best. Keep doing what you do!

  12. Photo number 2 is my favourite. These mugs are amazing and I love to see part of the creative process which is needed to create them. To see how they are created makes them that more special!

  13. I chose two because it’s interesting to see the process behind the work. Also, it reminds me of the video where ratata played and he made the ‘rawr’ motions, haha. I looked them up on YouTube and have been listening to them on the regular now, so thanks!

  14. I like photo #1 best because I find the colours of the mugs calming. I love the way the green and blue blend to make a a line of teal, and the green seeps into the finger indentations. I like that the white is fairly natural and not too bright, as well, and that the pots are all different. I also like that they contrast nicely with the darker wood of the surface they’re on, but that the surface brings out the unglazed finger-guarded spots at the bottoms of the mugs. Those are beautiful mugs, and they look like they’d be great for some hot cocoa after a walk in the snow! 🙂 Keep up the great work. I hope to have one of your pots someday! 🙂

  15. Umm, I left a vote and comment this weekend via mobile with my email tastyjustice@gmail.com But I don’t see my comment up anymore, did you get my vote? When I commented on this post via mobile I saw my comment posted on the blog, but now it’s not there. I voted for #2.

    1. Hi Chelsea, thanks for voting! Yet it typically takes us a few days to review all comments and approve them before they go live. Thanks for your vote and good luck! Winner to be announced soon 🙂
